Legislative Summit – For those of you that will be joining us in person for the Legislative Summit this coming week I wanted to make sure that you are aware that the Hyatt Regency runs a free shuttle from Ronald Reagan National Airport. The shuttle runs every 20 minutes, so you just need to find the hotel shuttle pick up area. If you come into Terminal A (mostly Southwest Airlines) that pick-up is on the second curb and will be marked. For terminals B and C, you will need to go up to level 3 to pick up the shuttle there. The information for the hotel is: Hyatt Regency Crystal City, 2799 Richmond Highway, Arlington VA 22202, phone: 800-233-1234. Again, you should not have to call the hotel for the shuttle they run automatically. Registration will be open in the lobby of the hotel from 3-6 PM on Sunday and outside the Regency Ballroom from 7:30-8:30 AM on Monday.
We will be offering a ZOOM opportunity if you will not be able to join us in person for the Summit. The link is in the information below. I will remind you that if you are an active member and wish to listen in you must be in a non-pay status and you may not use your Postal Service computer to log on. If you join via ZOOM you will be able to see the presenters and hear what is going on, we will just not have the capabilities to have you speak through the ZOOM. You will have the opportunity to correspond with the tech guys from the company we are using to provide the feed via the “chat” feature.
Some of the speakers that will be joining us on Monday, September 27 include House Oversight and Reform Chairwoman Carolyn Maloney; Representative Garrett Graves from Louisiana who is a champion for WEP/GPO reform; Representative Andy Levin from Michigan who has been a strong supporter of UPMA and USPS issues for many years; Representative Anthony Brown from Maryland; as well s the Vice President, Government Relations & Public Policy at Postal Service Headquarters, Peter Pastre. In addition, Representative Jim Comer, the Ranking Member on the House Oversight and Reform Committee will be addressing a luncheon we are having for Legislative and PAC Chairs, as well as PAC Medallion recipients that will be at the Summit. NOTE: the luncheon speech will not be available on the ZOOM feed. The link for the ZOOM portion of the Legislative Summit is:

Chapter Member Representative Academies – We have completed the first two of our four Chapter Member Representative (CMR) Academies and we are looking forward to the last two which will take place next month. On Saturday, October 16 we will be having a session in Boise, Idaho and on Saturday, October 23rd we will be in Omaha, Nebraska. If you have not registered yet, I would encourage you to speak with your Chapter President and have them get you signed up. This training is appropriate whether you are a seasoned veteran CMR, or if you are just wanting to get some information on the program. You will find it very beneficial either way. We do need to know by October 1, who will be attending in Boise and by October 11, who will be going to Omaha. Thank you for your cooperation.
As always, take care, stay safe, and follow the guidelines as presented by the CDC and the Postal Service.
Have a good week!
Dan Heins, UPMA National President
